Life has made me a Prepper.
Many years ago I was raising 5 children with no child support. I worked 2 jobs but it was never enough money to support us. At one time we were homeless. We lived at a state park in a tent with Vienna sausage being the meal of the day. I watched my children be hungry. I took a vow that they would never be hungry again. After I got on my feet I began collecting things, a hurricane lamp here a stove there and canned goods. I never buy one item of food, I would buy 3 put back 2. When I used a product I always put it back. I began canning and had quite a collection of food of which I was very proud of. It took me years to feel secure in my storage.
When I married my now husband, we bought a new house. While moving he decided that cleaning my storage out was in order and unbeknownst to me he threw away hundreds of jars of food at the county dump. I hit the roof to say the least but I let him live by teaching him better. I constantly work on my preps. I have added more and more skills to my repertoire.
I have taken over a guest bedroom, it first started in a closet, then I bought shelves one at a time. The bed has managed to serve as a storage underneath with water. I have tons of food, wheat, water, medical including essential oils, fuel (canned butane), paper goods, etc…I am very proud of what I have accumulated. My husband thinks I am a bit on the side of extreme, my neighbors thinks I am nuts..all is good. I am always in learning mode, I research and study scenarios to find something I have missed.
I have get home bags in every car and a bug out bag always handy. Again my scenarios have helped me pack them. My husband has been teaching me weapons, that is not something I am comfortable with, but getting better at it. I even carried a small bug out bag on vacation to central America last year.
We have many times had to use what we stored and learned from lessons such as during hurricanes Katrina and Gustavo when I had 10 people in our home. We lacked for nothing. While everyone else was running around looking and looting we did fantastic. We replaced everything back afterwards. We have all we need, so government…bring it on…I believe we will suffer a financial collapse in this country and I am ready….but I could use more cool stuff that is in the contest..

Great story. If you havent tried it, look into women on Target. No dis to hubby but It’s better to have someone else teach firearms. You’ll pay more attention to someone else. My wife and I are certified instructors, but had someone else teach our daughters.
