No fail pie crust-no electricity needed

A great pie crust recipe is a must. But I’ve been on a quest to find a good recipe that I can make without my food processor in the event I ever need to.  So, I’ve finally found one that I’ve made enough times to KNOW that I love it. So I thought I’d share it with you all.  By the way, I’ve made two pies this past week in my solar oven even though it’s been cold. As long as I have good sunlight for a couple of hours, the solar oven still does a beautiful job!!  Enjoy!!!

No Fail Pie Crust–No Electricity Needed

1/2 Cup shortening or lard (in a bowl, room temperature)

1/4 c. boiling water (or at least really, hot)

Dash of salt

Place all of these ingredients in a room temperature bowl and whip together with a fork.

Slowly add approximately 1 1/2 cup of flour until you obtain your desired texture. (I don’t always need the entire 1 1/2 cup of flour)

Roll out with a French rolling pin or other rolling tool to your desired thickness and size.

Makes two 9 inch pie crusts

I am somewhat new to your blog. I would love a link to the solar oven that you have, or did you make your own? There seem to be a lot of things that qualify as a “solar oven” when I type into a google search. Thanks!
