A few years ago I just got a feeling….a feeling that something is coming.  I talked about it with my husband, who, of course, thought I was crazy….at first.  But he supported my effort and we starting collecting items and becoming more organized with the emergency items we already had.  Then about a year ago I received an email from my step sister urging everyone get prepared.  That’s when I really started.
It wasn’t just me….or this little feeling inside.  Others felt the same way I did.  I signed up for some preparedness newsletters, which pretty much told me I am preparedness beginner, and that I was totally unprepared.  But I also feel a little more aware and definitely thankful that I have begun.  I’ve been slowly storing up canned goods, water, seeds, medicines…a little at a time as I shop and my “emergency closet” is slowly filling up.  There’s still so much more that I need to get before I will feel that I’m at the level I want to be.
I have 3 kids and they are my reason for trying to be as prepared as possible.  I can’t imagine a time when I wouldn’t be able give them the basic necessities and I’m hoping that it would never happen….so, a little at a time, I keep storing up.

I started 1 bag of rice (etc) at a time 40 years ago and could feed an army now. It works. You just have to focus your efforts!

Dear K
I learned years ago to trust my gut…call if intutition,.Karma whatever. Preparing will calm your mind, center you thoughts and give you peace. Proceed slowly, throughtfully and prayerfully. Let the spirit of love you have for your family and their needs guide you. There is no wrong way, just your way.

I too am getting prepared. There are so many aspects of this. One thing I tell people is to make a list of 21 menus and start there with a “grocery list” of things to purchase.

We have just begun prepping. We have moved out of L.A. to 9 acres in the country. We have a natural spring, a half acre pond and 3 smaller ponds, pool, jacuzzi, ( can be used as drinking water.) wild deer, turkey, pheasant, and host of other wild birds and animals right in our front yard ( in case we need to hunt). We are in a very safe location.. But, we have purchased firearms for both protection and hunting if necessary. We have made a shooting range on our property so we can go out and practice often. I’ve always been a city girl born and raised in Los Angwles so I’m not into sewing, I never knew what canning was until 3 months ago. By the way, I’ve tried it and I Love It!! There is a great satisfaction i get knowing I’m canning fresh foods for my family. I’ve also found that those pre- prepared cans of survival foods are Very expensive so canning foods that are fresh is much less expensive and I know what the ingredients are that are in the food because I’ve either organically grown it in my garden or cooked it myself.
Currently, we have enough food for a family of four for one year. I really want to step that up so we can know we will be secure, safe, and relatively happy in case of an emergency. Also, the next step we want to do is become fully off the grid with everything running on solar. We’ve got a ways to go yet, but living and learning this new lifestyle has be very rewarding….our family has become closer since we began prepping, our sense of satisfaction and true security has increased 100 fold. We love our lifestyle today… And wouldn’t trade it for the best named brand dress or shopping mall in America! Happy Prepping…

I too have that “feeling” that something is coming. I just started preparing and my husband thinks I’m nuts. My canner is coming this week. I have the word out that I’m looking for jars. I have a tote with everything essential needed for a 72 hour bag. I’m collecting as much water as I can. We’re all set in the weapons department. I read everything I can on the subject. I have 42 years of nursing in all fields, can sew and cook, can plant a garden (as long as there are no snakes around!). So I feel better now. I’m slowly getting my husband on board. My daughter is quietly on board, and my sons are very self reliant. I just hope its enough when the time comes.
