My name is Tiffany and I am 26 years old and a married mother of 3—and I am a prepper.
The name “prepper” to me can be labeled on a catalog of different people. For me it started roughly 2 years ago when we moved our family back home and my mother-in- law told me a little about it—so I was introduced in a way to it then.
I started doing it about a year and a half ago without even knowing it. I began to coupon and started my ‘stockpile’ and I was very proud of it until I wanted to get more into food because I noticed the things I was stocking up on were not very important at all except for a few things…but for the most part I didn’t feel fulfilled.
I am a full-time mom with 3 children and my husband is a painter. If anything happened to either of us, it would not be pretty, which is the thought that got me started.
I started paying attention to food costs and rising costs of everything—but our pay checks were not rising at all, so prepping is also a way for me to keep our family ahead.
Before I knew it, what I started as a hobby had become a part-time job for me and I keep learning more and more about being prepared. At the same time I have also taken my new-found passions and started to notice I have become more aware of what I am eating and ingredients and trying to change that.
I am also paying more attention to what is going on around me—from Mother Nature to politics. Starting my prepping journey has opened my eyes to so much more than just being prepared!
I may not be very far in my food storage but I have grown the passion and I want to share what I have grown to love and learn!
Food storage to me is a peace of mind. It is not only a bunch of food I am storing for an event. I use my food everyday. So it’s nothing to hide at all and it is something I am proud of! You store what you want and eat what you store! Then ‘if’ anything does happen, I know my family will be taken care of.
We all have car issuance, life insurance, and house insurance but what about food and water!? I prep just to have a peace of mind and it really is as simple as that.
Everyone should do it at least a little or be aware that food storage is not just hiding food away for a rainy day. You can keep delicious and healthy foods and it will help save time and money AND help you be that much more self reliant!

Tiffany, you’re absolutely right! It only makes sense to prepare. There are so many families out there depending on one income, and if anything does happen to that income it could be disastrous unless you have a plan…and having a food supply for a month or even a few weeks can make a huge difference!

I totally understand, I try so hard to find those coupons, and get the value of the product, and not pay so much. I hubby is great at deals, and getting all the sales not me, lol…. but I sure am great at bulking up, like I like quantity….. Also though, I dont have far enough as u do I am sure, thnx for waking me up, and realizing, I have to do more to get more.

It does not take much for one to realize that things are changing quickly in the world around us. I am a mother of two small children and want to do more to live a prepared life. Our children need us to help secure a future for them in which they can encourage peace and prosperity, and that can only happen if we do our part to prepare for such an uncertain future. Prepping is survival and the ability to take what we have and use it to create a thriving life.

I enjoyed reading your article! You are so right when you say that one starts to become aware of the world at large (the economy, politics, medicine, climate, etc) when one starts to store food and do other “prepper” things. And you make an excellent point: most of us have house insurance, car insurance, employment insurance…but overlook the basics like food and water.

you sound normal, remind me of the old time Preppers, they were just called normal people when I was young, everyone had supplies to weather out storms.
Everyone had a little something extra tucked away, just normal people normal times.
