A New Jersey Prepper? Now you’ve heard it all!

Who would have thunk? We’d be preppers… Certainly not us!

What changed you asked? We’ll to be quite honest, life is always changing, but we were ok with   ignoring the changes taking place. (didn’t you ever hear of ROSE COLORED GLASSES? Ours were more of a purplish hue, ok deep purple, haha)

  • Unemployment
  • Natural Disasters
  • Man-made disasters
  • Economic collapse

Just to name a few of the things we were “almost” completely ignoring, and I say almost, because we “knew” about them,  we just chose not to acknowledge them…..UNTIL 3 years ago a miracle happened!

MIRACLE you say? Yes, MIRACLE! We have a 24 year old daughter (who is truly wonderful) we tried for many years to have another child. I was diagnosed with PCOS, and told it would be very difficult to get pregnant and stay pregnant. So 21 years later…we have a MIRACLE (a wonderful 3 year old son!)

Fast forward 1 year, I chose to leave the government and work from home…not knowing my husband would lose his job, only 3 short months later…. (he was well liked, and with a VERY well-known and stable “chain” restaurant.  2 for $20 anyone? We never saw it coming)

So for food prep we were probably the least prepped people you’d ever meet. We ate out a lot, and when we did eat at home, I usually stopped by the grocery and picked up whatever we were going to make that night. (I know, I’m making you cringe, sorry)

BUT…wait! We have changed, and believe me if we can anyone can!

We now have 72 hour bags, food storage (3 months and growing), water, medical supplies, candles, flashlights, and much more!

So coming from a family that used to have only mustard and maybe mayo in the fridge, cobwebs in our cupboards, and pantry…what pantry?  To having (2) full refrigerators, 5 shelves in our basement filled with food and our cupboards are full.

Life is now truly peaceful….I know, I live in New Jersey, but believe me Jersey can be peaceful too! Ok, now you’ve heard it all!  Have fun prepping *smile*

And as you can see from the pictures…one looks just like me and one like my husband, only GOD could have planned that!

Hi everyone,
I hope anyone reading my story will see that prepping is something that we should do as a country, you never know, and you never want to be in a position where you have to find out how to survive because you didn’t prepare.
Please take time to take care of you family and loved ones!

Jen, just shows that EVERYONE can change! congratulations on your new lifestyle and miracle son! sometimes prepping seems so overwhelming. But treat it like eating an elephant, one bite at a time!

Thanks Anne, it can be a bit overwhelming some days, great advice I will take it one bite at a time :). I feel like I have so far to go, but then I remember how far we have come and I feel better!
