The AMA… helpful or harmful?

Today’s article comes to us courtesy of a reader who took such great exception to my article from yesterday.  I have never taken this type of approach previously, however, I feel that it’s important to do so in this case so that there be no disillusion as to what this year has in store with Preparedness Pro. The post yesterday was as follows, with an anonymous name and non-working e-mail address (kind of funny and ironic when you think about that aspect actually because anonymity is the ideal characteristic of someone who’s attempting to do something in secret, don’t ya think?)

“It’s been interesting to watch the evolution of your posts over the past several years. At one point I found them interesting and informative. However, now they are full of fear mongering, unfounded bias, and claims of expertise in so many areas that I’ve lost count. I suppose the final straw for me is being lumped into a “guarded” and “secret society.” I hope you never find yourself in the ER, especially my ER, at the mercy of an AMA puppet, peddler of dangerous chemicals and treatments, and member of a secret society. There will always be a place for DE, essential oils, and other holistic measures, but when your .45 or your aim lets your down, you hit that patch of black ice, or pick up a bug that outsmarts your treatments, you’d better hope one of my secret society brethren is around to help out.”

My response is as follows, which I believe has relevance to all of our readers, present and prospective. You’ll either come back for more or decide that this is the year you part ways with Preparedness Pro:

To begin with, I have repeatedly stated that I believe that the medicine as we practice it today in this nation has it’s appropriate time for use.  A car accident such as you describe would indeed fall into that category. In fact, I even wrote an article previously about how essential oils were useless when emergency medicine was appropriate.  That being said, I cannot back down from my characterization of the American Medical Association. They are indeed guarded and secretive. They behave on a grand scale much like the mob of old Chicago days, complete with the gross amounts of ill-gotten gains and thug tactics. They persecute socially, financially and in any other way possible any person who has the audacity to use the solutions that GOD has given us, elevating their man-made, flawed concoctions as superior to anything that the Creator could possibly provide.  We have gone from a nation practicing health care, to simply spinning it as such, when in fact we are practicing death care. In large part, due to the AMA’s excellence in marketing, we have come to be forced to bow down to their say so or risk having Child Protective Services come and steal our children away from us.  So, no sir, I will NOT back down from sharing what I believe to be the truth. To do so will bring me, I believe, much more severe consequences than your venomous words.

I am very grateful indeed to the persons who enter the field of medicine with a charitable heart and with the intentions of truly helping others. I have a

What would we do without our nurses, EMTs and specialized medical professionals?

relative who is one of the most notable plastic surgeons around. He is the one that people go to when the limb has been removed or other like scenarios.  I am grateful to him and those like him. This relative of mine is one of the most pure in heart individuals I know, as well as the most expert in his field. But if he ever had the nerve to suggest to a patient that they use helichrysum and lavender essential oils to help heal the scarring or to use anything other than chemicals to overcome the pain following surgery, then he would be chewed up as a snack by his peers and the AMA—even the same peers and association which presently shower him with praise and respect. So while you have had your feathers ruffled by my characterization of the AMA, presumably because you are a member thereof, just remember, the devil deserts his own and they (your peers and AMA) will not be there should you ever decide to step out of line with their self-appointed credentials and unquestionable wisdom.  This is because the medical professionals are indeed different and separate from the guarded secret society of the AMA, in spite of the warm and fuzzy feelings that may be fed at AMA conventions.

You take exception to the branding of the “secret society” and “guarded.”  Then tell me why is it that a person has such difficulty getting a copy of their ENTIRE medical records?  This dilemma may have made for good comedic fodder  on “Sienfeld” but it’s also a reality.

Why is it that those who have proven solutions for various ailments cannot even get an audience with the AMA or the FDA if such a solution is not patentable by the pharmaceutical industry?

Why is it that the FDA has the gall to inform Cheerios that they had better apply for a medicinal patent if they elect to continue to label their product as being beneficial in fighting cholesterol? Yes, I believe it’s a guarded society indeed if it sees Cheerios and true HEALTH care as a threat to their monetary gain.

To be clear, I will state two positions in conclusion. The body is indeed a miracle. It can perform ALL of the proper functions if provide with the proper tools and not abused with the improper tools. If given enough time, I believe that the body can indeed perform its miraculous functions, but sometimes a body has run out of time– either because of a tragic accident or ignoring the fundamentals of good health, etc. I believe that such time is when the medicine we practice in the U.S. has its place—yes, the emergency room. However, emergency room practice does NOT belong in our lives otherwise, and yet too many of us are allowing ourselves to shirk our own personal responsibility and not take any action until we end up there. That’s what  Medical Preparedness is all about to me—taking personal responsibility and using what we have been provided with NOW—outside of the delusional superiority of the AMA—to ensure that we stand as self-reliant as possible in this particular area.

Why can’t we get all of our own medical records?

Finally, the gloves are coming off this year. There is far too much threatening our self-reliance for me to stick to “safe topics”.  Wheat, beans, and water are fine but they are only a part of the solution to our creating more self-reliant lives. While I enjoy the fact that a person can create whole wheat blueberry pancakes without a grinder, such skills do little to save their lives and keep their dignity intact.  The fact of the matter is, EVERY aspect of our lives is being tread upon and polluted. Every part. And our only counter move is to stop relying on someone else to provide us with answers in EVERY part of our lives.

Thank goodness that Adam and Eve didn’t have the AMA, Federal Reserve, Child Protection Services, FDA, Unemployment, PTA, School Boards, Worker’s Compensation Plan, DEA, TSA, and unions to SAVE them from all of the challenges that they would encounter in raising a family and subsequently creating a nation. Because if they did, I doubt that you and I would ever come into existence.  We have given these entities far too much influence and credibility.

I believe wholeheartedly in panic-free preparedness.  That doesn’t mean that a few feathers don’t get ruffled during the process of getting to the panic-free state or that people won’t be inconvenienced in their present way of thinking along the way.  Knowledge and an application of that knowledge is the surest way to know that when a so-called crisis occurs, a person doesn’t have to crumble into a mess of tears and anxiety and can know that they can handle it. You may trivialize my words as bias or mislabel them as fear mongering, or attempt to discredit all that I’ve worked hard to learn, but I assure you that even with the AMA’s despicable contribution to the decay of the health and wellness of our nation aside,  an emergency room with only limited supplies, or which is reliant upon medical experts who are stuck in their homes due to a quarantine, blizzard or earthquake—will do little to allay the concerns of a population which ignores this opportunity in time to educate themselves so that they have solutions in the event of the “What if.”

A wonderful commentary and I am blessed to have read it. I look forward to reading more as time goes by. Like you, we believe there is a time and place for “modern medicine”, but God gave us incredible bodies that often can heal themselves if given the right God-given treatments. The way “modern medicine” is often practiced, especially in the U.S., it is most often the “band-aide approach” (treat the symptoms with drugs, often with harsh or deadly side effects instead of addressing the underlying problems.) I have benefited from modern medical treatment when emergency surgery was required to save my life and when I, through my own negligence, allowed an infection to go too far before addressing it. But I also believe that God gave us more natural solutions that can address most of our conditions, if only we would be willing to seek them out and use them. Definitely look forward to seeing what other posts you write. Thanks again.

Thank you for your courage to stick up for personal medical responsibility. I am grateful for modern medicine. . . I would have died in a childbirth with twins without it and one of those babies would have been crippled for life. However, I feel some of the problem with modern medicine is their marriage with the drug manufacturers and that has led me to become leery of modern medicine. We need to do our own research and be our own patient advocate. I always make sure I get a copy of my labs when I have them and keep that as part of my medical file so I can see changes in levels. I have type II diabetes and it seems modern medicine does not look at a lot of research out there that does not charge for more and more pills as you go down the path of a worsening condition. Instead, proper diet limiting carbohydrates can really reduce blood sugar levels, you are given a pill. It’s very frustrating but that is just one example of one medical problem that is in the clutches of drug-funded research ignoring independent research! I look forward to your podcasts! I listen to you weekly!

Thanks for not backing down in what you believe…It takes courage to stick to your guns, especially these days…You are right in that all of our liberties seem to be at risk of being desolved in one way or another; freedom of speach, the right to bear arms, health choices, food choices and so on…

Wayne · January 11, 2011 at 9:12 pm

Sweet giblets, Kellene are you telling me that I cannot trust a large group of people who put their own interests before mine? Is your “responder” saying that I should put all my faith in a bureaucracy and not be knowledgeable and capable of caring for myself or my family? Perhaps these are the end of days. But at least I will be prepared. Funny how D&C living can out do the AMA without blinking an eye. Weird how God actually cares for his children huh?

Great response to a narrow minded individual. (BTW I am a certified EMT and most of the calls I have responded to are precisely because people do not take care of themselves daily. In three years I saw only 5 MVA or other traumatic situations, most calls are 50 yr old obese people with chest pain. – go figure.)

Looking forward to 2011.

Best,
Wayne

I cannot believe that he threatened you in that email! What your emailer doesn’t realize is that he just proved what he was trying to disprove. A doctor takes an oath to do no harm. Its a shame that they have no idea what that really really means!!

Chris Burns · January 11, 2011 at 11:06 pm

Thank you for not only standing up but standing out and showing us the way. Too many don’t want to be responsible sadly and too many doctors earn their nice salaries because of that and don’t want us to become informed because it affects their bottom line. You have my vote for being more responsible. Thank you.

Mel G · January 11, 2011 at 11:42 pm

Let me add my two cents here as a member of our society whose husband and myself lost our jobs, insurance, vehicle and dignity in today’s economy. Without insurance, there are no doctor’s office who will see myself and my husband. Not only that, but the medical clinic where we used to receive medical care increased their office visit so that we can’t afford it. Yes, I can go to the ER for emergency care, but I can’t afford the huge bill and the lawsuits because I no longer have insurance or a job to pay for the medical care. SO THANK GOD for Kellene Bishop who is willing to help us become healthier through natural healing and not asking for my first born!!! Yes, I have been turned away from a doctor’s office. Sitting on the exam table waiting for him to come in and the nurse comes in and asks me to leave because I could not pay. True story! What would it have hurt to see one patient…have pity on one soul when you have so much? So Doc, don’t knock it, when the system is far from perfect.

    Maria · January 13, 2011 at 1:16 am

I got one for you. Went to the emergency room for a gall bladder attack. They told me it was serious and needed to be removed. After finding out I didn’t have insurance there was nothing else they could do for me. He told me I needed at least $8,000 before any doctor will see me and remove my gall bladder. In the mean time change my eating habits. So much for taking care of patients. lol

      Chong · January 17, 2011 at 8:55 pm

Yes, they dont care.. its all about the mighty dollar.

They will “Diagnose you” with a control disease like diabetes just as quickly as find the REAL CAUSE of an illness.. as diabetes keeps on getting them rich. Happened to my dad, and he found out 2 years later he was in fact NOT diabetic.

Miz Claudia · January 11, 2011 at 11:50 pm

Thanks for this and all you do to help us become more self-reliant. Too many of us want the government or some big medical/industrial complex to make us “safe”. It’s a shame people don’t really understand the price they pay for that concept. I remember watching tv news reports after Katrina where people were standing around on highway overpasses for days screaming for the government to transport them someplace “safe”. I wanted to scream back at them, “Start walking! Take responsibility!” They just don’t get it. Or maybe it’s me.

kathy · January 12, 2011 at 12:04 am

bravo!! thank you for such a well thought out post. there are a good many like minded people who can see the chaos and outline for others. let us all hope and pray that the good Lord inspires those that are not so like minded to see things in a brave new way when they read posts such as yours. Amen!!

Jane · January 12, 2011 at 12:39 am

I would like it if you got back to more food storage basics and didn’t dwell on guns and essential oils so much.

    Kellene · January 12, 2011 at 12:48 am

Tomorrow’s article that’s already programmed to hit is on Almond milk…the problem with just addressing food storage basics though is that Food Preparedness is only ONE of 10 Principles of Preparedness, and in order of prioritization is all the way down at #8. This means that there are 7 other areas that a person will be confronted with first when a serious challenge hits–in a very real, undeniable sense, before they can even begin to address the issue of food.

    Maria · January 13, 2011 at 1:09 am

What if you stored all the food you needed for a year and then something horrible happens? Now what if during that event a medical emergency came up concerning someone you loved. Would you be able to help them? Or would you have to find someone else? What if you were their only hope?

One more example. What if you had to leave your home where all your food was, would you be able to survive away from home? If you are not prepared in other areas food will be your least concern.

Sometimes, we prepare for things, but only slightly because then we have to realize the truth – we are truly responsible for ourselves and our well being. While we pray others will help, ultimately it falls on us. Just something for you to think about.

Kathy M · January 12, 2011 at 12:46 am

Jamie · January 12, 2011 at 1:06 am

I know I can handle very simple things as an Army trained Combat Lifesaver. Many doctors say they will quit taking Medicare patients or retire altogether rather than face the red tape of the “Health Care Law”. So now what? you must take care of yourself and your own. So if there is no doctor, you do what?……
Learn to take care of your self. A broken bone is not the end of the world. It hurts like the (insert bad word here) but splint or cast takes care of the healing most times. Big cut a little 1st aid super glue or bandage does wonders. Sick with the latest bug? real chicken soup, fluids and rest is usually what you need not a hospital or Doctor.
If you have a pet and take it to a vet, you get great health care for the pet at good cost. You can make payments or can stretch out office visits over a couple of weeks. You can go to your local farm store you can give your own pet shots of everything of vitamins to vaccines to Neomycin and perscription drugs for a human but are just fine for pets or livestock and you can treat them on your own. You can get perscription drugs for your dog but not for your kid?
Insurance isn’t health care!

Good points I hadn’t thought of this morning, Jamie. Well said. See, you’re not always crazy. *grin*

      katzcradul · January 12, 2011 at 2:55 pm

Totally agree…I learned more back in those days. I got information that I could use on a daily basis. And it seems like now, I’m always asking myself, “What are they trying to sell?”

        Kellene · January 12, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Yeah, that song is getting old, Katzcradul, because I make so much money on a FREE broadcast series, a FREE blog with NO advertisers, etc. Tell me, how much money have you ever given to me? Are you not getting your money’s worth? Yeah, my actions are sooo suspicious. I have encouraged you many times to go elsewhere for your information since I am such a danger to your wallet but you keep coming back and keep spreading joyous messages when you do.

          katzcradul · January 13, 2011 at 2:44 pm

I stand by what I said, it’s always a good question to ask ourselves. Some folks, who on the surface are spreading the work of preparedness, and hawking wares, are also receiving compensation for it. I just think those folks should be forth coming and up front with their followers. Let’s just say, for instance, if my husband owned a company that sold products that I heartily endorsed on my blog, it would only be honest and fair to let my subscribers know that, whether the product was gold, silver, essential oils, or food storage products. And I’m not alone in in feeling this way. Not sure why my post garnered such a vitriolic response…perhaps the lateness of the hour. My supportive and complimentary posts have always outweighed those that offered a suggestions or criticism. Anyway, best wishes.

          Kellene · January 13, 2011 at 6:45 pm

          Sue Autry,

Perhaps you MISSED the blog on here entitled “In the Interest of Full Disclosure” http://www.preparednesspro.com/blog/in-the-interest-of-full-disclosure/ in which I make perfectly clear that my husband has a business which I do periodically direct my readers to. In fact, that’s the whole reason WHY he started his business is because I got tired of not knowing or trusting where we referred readers. So, perhaps that’s one of the many reasons why your posting garnered such a response.

Perhaps another reason is because I’ve frankly had enough of you thinking that I have ANY obligation to my readers–particularly you. You don’t compensate me in anyway; I don’t hold a public office beholden to you; I don’t work for a newspaper and thus get paid to put up with such nonsense, and so forth. I’m simply a person who feels that a lot of the correct information isn’t out there in the world of preparedness and while no one may ever read what I say, I’m going to do my best to at least make sure I put it out there. While I care about my readers and even those who aren’t, and would like to actually offer them helpful information, I am no way required to write what they want. I’m sticking with a specific plan which coincides with my conscience and that’s that.

Perhaps YOU are the one who has a problem with all of this because you may perceive it as some kind of a threat to your own home-based business of e-foods? I don’t know. But what I do know is that I will no longer tolerate your postings on this site, whether in condescending approval of what I write or derision. Clearly you are bent on uncovering me as some kind of a duplicitous fiend, and I’m just not into being your punching bag any longer. As I’ve said previously, “you rubbed my lamp” Chickie, so say thank you and move on like a decent human being, or go to another blog.

I have a wonderful new doctor who is an MD who worked in Emergency medicine for a long time and then felt the Lord telling him to start healing people naturally instead of masking the symptoms with drugs. He now considers himself a homeopathic physician and I am just thrilled! Too bad my insurance no longer recognizes his abilities to help me pay for my visits. You can read about his practice (Dr. Douglas Weeks, MD) at http://www.medinawellnesscenter.com He understands both sides of the coin and chooses to give health back to his patients. God bless Dr. Weeks, MD!!!

    Laurie · January 12, 2011 at 1:37 am

    Sorry…

    http://www.medinawellnessclinic.com is the correct address.

    Kellene · January 12, 2011 at 1:39 am

Yeah, isn’t it sad when doctors actually look to healing people the medical world as we know it attempts to smoke them out of business by cutting off their source of income? Geesh!

My friend had a double mastectomy last week. The insurance refused to pay for the removal of her other breast even though it’s what’s always done in such circumstances due to a high likelihood of the cancer returning. They deemed it unnecessary–until the Doctor re-coded the surgery and called it “cosmetic symmetry.” That they would approve, but a preventable means while she was already going to be on the surgical table, they wouldn’t accept. Good grief.

Guns and essential oils are a very important part of your chances of survival for might be coming, people need advice as to where to go and get help or info. Kellene, please continue to diversify your articles as you have been doing. And I fully agree with your opinion of doctors. The threatening tone of the individual that wrote to you proves they are not all as committed as they would like us to believe. I feel sorry for the person who cannot accept that there are other ways to look at everything. I appreciate very much the time and effort you put into FREE information. Thanks alot. Wanda

Rebellion consist of an effective garden, oils and herbs. A bunch Desperadoes are we not accepting the Feds. It’s not Bonnie and Clyde it’s learn from the Amish and going severely “retro”.
I just love the idea of a “Government Official” not understanding folks growing food, making bullets, bartering and trading amongst themselves and no “Vig” for the fed or state.

Kathleen · January 12, 2011 at 2:46 am

Wheeew, let’s all take deep breath, and recognize that both sides have equal value. I have been a nurse for about 27 years and I have seen some really amazing things that traditional medicine has done, lives saved and pulled from the edge of death by brilliant and dedicated MDs and the hard work of nurses and hospital staff. And I have seen Gods hand in the work of these people. I work with a Cardiovascular open heart MD who starts every surgery with prayer. I am continually amazed by how often things go Right instead of wrong, and I have seen and felt the heartbreak when it ends in the death. These people work everyday to improve their skills and knowledge. And yes when things go wrong you will want them trying to save the life of your spouse, child, or grandchild.
I have also watched the progression of “traditional medicine” work to integrate non-tradition medicine into the plan of care. I have a doctor who suggests non-tradition methods of care and is open to suggestions of non tradition medicines, including naturopathic medicine that I found helpful, stating she would try it for her elderly mother.
I also work as a Union nurse in a Union hospital, unions are political forces, yes, that continually work to improve patient safety in hospitals. Currently most Nurse Unions have been working on Safe Staffing Levels to insure that the nurse caring for your loved one isn’t so overworked that he/she makes a critical mistake. When I started nursing this didn’t exist and I would commonly take care of 6-10 patients on a shift, now the most I care for is 4, usually 3. So don’t put down Unions and paint all unions with the same paint brush. A nurse with a good work life will take better care of your loved one.
And yes I do think we all need to learn alternative methods of health care, if TSHTF your local hospital will not be able to take care of you. Resources are limited and the hospital is the last place you want to be.
Sooo let’s all take a deep breath and respect each others ability and knowledge.

Jessica · January 12, 2011 at 3:25 am

It has been said that if you are prepared then you will not fear… they never said if you have a years supply of food you won’t fear. Food storage isn’t everything, being able to take care of yourself or your family in the event of an emergency is a wonderful blessing, even the most basic first aid can save lives. There are too many instances where things go wrong and no doctors are available, I don’t see anything wrong with learning a little bit and practicing what you’ve learned to get through a doctorless time. Emergencies are more than just hurricanes and earthquakes, losing a job or the death of a spouse qualify too. Kellene thank you for helping us help ourselves!

Jamie · January 12, 2011 at 3:26 am

The thing is good intentions don’t matter for much. I’m not knocking Docs, nurses or EMT’s. I knock the feds. If I was a nurse a Doctor or any type of “health-care provider” I’d hate to deal with the “Red Tape” that provides no better health care only more controls from the feds.
We need out of the box thinking. I think our “Health care Professionals” Have great value. Let’s say Kathleen I approach with an 1 oz silver coin or food for 6 months? Are we not trading value for value? No insurance, just you and I agree about value. Heck it could be free eggs for 6 or more months. We could do this and cut out the feds.
We all need health care but wouldn’t you like to see patients that actually took responsibility for themselves and be more pro-active?

Nick · January 12, 2011 at 5:23 am

Not to worry, Obamacare will solve all of our medical problems.

Seriously, there are enough problems with our medical system already without government intrusion and overregulation being ramped up. I sure hope that the Supreme Court comes to its Constitutional senses and shoots down the coverage mandate in Obamacare–otherwise, just think of how many other “good” things the government could force us to do, consequences be damned. There are enough bad doctors (I’ve had a few in my 40 years) who won’t become better doctors if the government piles even more onerous regulations on the industry. There’s already a huge number of doctors heading for the doors if Obamacare is declared constitutionally permissible (which I can’t see happening, but I’d rather prepare for the worst). Things are going to get interesting.

Way to go girl! As you know I have had a very bad medical year with a severly broken leg….The Dr that did the surgery and put in the two huge plates and 20 screws was a marvel. However he was one of those “traveling” Dr. I was lucky to get him…I was then turned over to a Dr who could care less….I only saw his nurse practioner…I did see him once when they forgot to take4 all of the staples out of my leg…(for about 7 whole seconds) I ended up back in the hospital for another 8 days with a sever infection…They just did not pay attention….but I still had to pay the bill! Then the Dr who took care of me for the 8 days healed my leg too fast I ended up with a worse infection….one that put a huge hole in my leg….Now I am sent to the Wound Care Clinic….Thank GOD! This Dr did care..for 3 monthes I had to have what is called an uno boot…very involed technique also a nurse to come in on off days and change this as only a registered nurse can do this……now my bill for the broken leg surgury etc….about $25.000….my bill for all of the mistakes $37.000…..Now I ask you does any of this make any sence? This was all uncalled for….and I did not even mention the cost of having some one drive me the 100 mile round trip once a week…..Now of course if I ever break another bone I will go to get proper medical care….however I learned all that I could fron the wound care center and the nurse who visited me , sometimes twice a week….I got some books (recommended) and my medical prep kit has grown fron a small little shoe box size to a very large 3’x5′ foot locker on wheels where I live you don’t get immediate help….it is at least and hour …so you have to learn to take care of yourself….and if you do not you are very foolish!…My primary Dr. is going to retire….she says enough is enough….she is a younger woman and a great dr…but she has had enough of OBAMA CARE and fyi she believes in all forms of medicine she has even borrowed books from me…she gives choices and is a very big advocate of aromatherapy…..and she does not like the AMA!

There are two kinds of doctors – the ones that are business doctors that only care about the bottom line and what I call real doctors that care about taking care of people. An example of a real doctor: Years ago I worked at a bank and we had alot of doctors for customers. The girl next to me had a burn mark on her head from a curling iron accident. Her customer – a very well respected doctor in the community, saw the mark and asked her what happened and he took a closer look at it and then asked for a piece of paper. He wrote out a precription for her and told her that should work for her and if there were any problems at the pharmacy to have them call him. He didn’t ask for any payment. He is a true doctor that cares about people and not just the bottom line. There are some real doctors out there especially in rural areas where they don’t get paid much and work long hours.

Kellene don’t let some jerk make you doubt in the least all the good you are doing. I have purchased books you have recommended ( Just finish Milk the untold story—WOW! I live in a farming area and I can’t find anyone who sells raw milk because of all the regulations!) I purchased the birch oil you recommended for those who have have hip replacements, it is unbelivable how well that helps my leg pain- I think they put in one of the recalls-I have more pain now than before. My husband almost died this summer from trying to stay healthy and having a colonoscopy which the doctor blew in air to quickly and tore his lower intestines apart, sent him home in pain and 6 days later he was so full of infection they said he would need surgery and would wear a bag the rest of his life. God answered my prayers and he is Okay-but he takes his diotamacious earth every day-I learned that from you Kellene. You just have no idea how many peoples lives you touch in a wonderful way. And we realize how much time and energy you put into it. These are qualities that make Saints! Thank you for everything. You are in my prayers you are saving lives!

I totally agree with what you said! In a real emergency, there will not be enough man power and supplies to help even a small percentage of the population….just look at what happened after Katrina! We need to be self reliant and educate ourseleves first. Then we can help others who will need help because the ER’s are overflowing!

Kellene – I’m just getting into the whole essential oils “thing” (about 2-3 months) and have begun using some with good results thus far. However, as I start reading and researching more, I’m becoming a bit confused about “which” books and resources are best (some seem a bit too “technical” or “theoretical” to be of much use as a practical resource: for example, I bought “Reference Guide for Essential Oils,” but many of the combinations they suggest are ones already prepared by YLEO). Any ideas, suggestions, tips, & recommendations of where I might go or what I should read/study?

    Kellene · January 13, 2011 at 8:42 pm

I ran into that same problem about 9 or 10 years ago. I even purchased the expensive book by YLEO founder, but found over 300 errors just in the first few pages. (I was later told it was because it was published and printed in China…who knows?) The book I’m giving away this month may have a few typos in it, but it’s the most comprehensive and rational and well laid out that I’ve found. That’s not to say that I’ve never benefited by going to a whole lot of symposiums, taking lots of notes, etc. I also benefited from the one put out by Butterfly Express. While I don’t feel that their products are superior to others, the knowledge shared is sincere and well researched as well.

have never heard much about essential oils – and so am very interested in the book you are giving away this month.

The problems also have to be laid at the feet of our insurance providers. Ours is becoming very invasive. I get letters telling me I MUST comply to what THEY want me to do about certain health concerns. I called and asked where the heck were they coming from? And how did they get the info on me in the first place? They said the tests the doctor had ordered alerted them I MAY be suffering from this or that, so join our program to learn more. I said the tests were negative so go away! Now they are saying I will have to pay more for health insurance because I did not do as they asked. Excuse me? My doctor advises me; I decide what to do. No one else! I am not kidding you; we got a letter saying we must get a physical and the results would determine how much we will have to pay. I got a call just yesterday that one med I take was way past the due date to be refilled. I told them I was getting it filled at (an unapproved pharmacy) because it was free – no copay. They were not happy campers. The saga continues. Three more years until Medicare, if it exists then.

    Wow…That just makes me ill!

Kellene:

I just found your blog and am learning a lot. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

I’m an American who now lives in Canada (married a Canadian). What a relief it is to take my little one to a doctor when she is very ill, regardless of whether or not I have money in my pocket. I never have to juggle the grocery budget to take her to have her broken arm set. When she had a terrible allergic reaction, we went to the hospital without pause, with no one asking us how we were going to pay. When I see the situation in the US, my home country, it makes me so sad to see that the medical “treatment” (you could hardly call it “care” in most situations) is being held for ransom, and only those who are absolutely penniless or those who have tons of money at their disposal can access it. The regular working class simply cannot manage to receive that care without some other aspect of their budget suffering.

Care being withheld from seriously ill individuals until they sell their car or give up their homes to pay for it – well, if that doesn’t smack of loan sharks and organized crime, I don’t know what does. I completely agree with your assessment of the AMA and am delighted to learn of the natural remedies you share here.

Dear Kellene,

I have had Kaiser Insurance for many years, and have come to several conclusions. You always have to be your own advocate. There are good doctors to be found, and reasonable health care. Usually.

I have also learned a lot from reading your blog, and have learned to question things I had always taken for granted. That’s a great result.

Never give up. There are a lot of people benefiting from your efforts. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
