Perhaps you may recall that several months ago I wrote an article that took the position that one of the greatest threats to our safety and security were actually your neighbors and friends. Sadly, this reality is being encouraged all over the nation at present in plain daylight. It’s undeniably reminiscent of the behavior of the German people during World War II when the friends of the Jews, even Jews themselves, would provide information to the German SS Army about their neighbors simply with the hope that they would be treated more favorably than what they were witnessing all around them. As such, some neighbors and friends even provided false information in exchange for a promise of a more comfortable life with the Third Reich in control. Sadly, today the DHS has kicked off their own version of such a scenario by encouraging Americans everywhere to be the eyes and ears of the community and to provide verbal testimony against any suspected perpetrator of domestic terrorism.

What is their definition of domestic terrorism? Well, unfortunately you have heard their criteria many times before seeing this story.  Supporters of Ron Paul, Americans who prefer homeschooling, returned military veterans, concealed carry permit holders, gun owners, devout-Christians, “preppers” and on and on.  In fact, recently I read an article which claimed that anyone who would actually take the time to read the entire Internal Revenue Code was considered mentally ill.  Kind of reminds me of what the Catholic Diocese through in the early 1700’s about anyone who would dare read the Bible without having the authority to do so. No matter that either piece of “literature” was read so that someone could accept responsibility and accountability for their own freedoms and choices.

Recently an everyday Mom who also is a faithful blogger who believed in self-reliance and would frequently voice her concerns about the world around her—had her child subjected to extensive questioning while at school—illegally of course. These questions were about whether or not her mother owned any guns, took the kids camping, stored food, or has remodeled her home?  Who dared to ask a child these questions while she was at school? Nope, it wasn’t the Nazi’s, the KGB, or the CIA. It was an even more intimidating foe that tends to believe they are outside of the reach of the law and justice—the Child Protection Services division of Georgia.  They then proceeded to charge the mother with child endangerment, based on the faulty theory that the mother blogged 20 hours a day and thus must be neglecting her daughter.  (Click here to see her article on the experience)

At first blush, I find their requests so ironic. We have story after story parading past us in the mainstream media of citizens, security officials and even law enforcement personnel being condoned in the decisions to NOT ACT while they sit idly by and witness a brutal rape, assault, and even murder, and yet the DHS believes in the good ‘ole system of scaring them into unfounded disclosure of their friends and community members.

For those of you who don’t know, the DHS has started launching a campaign, as of yesterday, encouraging people everywhere that if you see “something suspicious or out of the ordinary” then “say something” to local authorities—or even your local retail store Manager! They are looping this warning video in hundreds of Wal-Mart stores across the U.S. and will soon have them at bus stations, the Mall of America, and other key gathering locations such as sports venues, concerts, etc. You would think with this kind of aggressive plea to help them find the “domestic terrorists” that they would have the present threat level at “red.”  Nope. It’s not, of course. This is just one more cog in the wheel to get us to question our own sanity of being prepared, being responsible for our own safety and comfort, and being independent of welfare assistance.

I find this information to be very important to the majority of my readers.  We simply cannot allow ourselves to panic or to buy into all of this hype.  Mark my words, a similar message will be conveyed when the flu becomes rampant in our country again. I can hear it just now “if you know of someone who opposes the vaccinations, please notify your local authorities or Wal-Mart store manager.  Their decision to not be vaccinated is a threat against your life and the health and wellness of your children.”  See the video of the DHS message by clicking here

For more information on this story, click here:

I really want to wish everyone a Happy New Year…but my words feel a bit altered with this latest revelation to the point that I’d rather wish and pray for that we all learn our rights and stay committed to standing by them—and most importantly teach our children of these rights to independence so that they never become an unwitting pawn of Big Sister, Napolitano.

Thanks for this, Kellene. It really is getting ridiculous, and we need to be watchful and aware of what’s going on around us.

Geanine · December 30, 2010 at 10:43 pm

Kellene,
You hit this so right on. Who would dare question Big Sister! Wake up America. Keep up the good work. I am going to put a link to this on my facebook wall!
Thanks friend,
Geanine

    Kellene · December 31, 2010 at 12:59 am

Have a Happy New Year, Geanine!

Julie K. · December 30, 2010 at 10:57 pm

This is so disturbing, I am just speechless. When did being a self-reliant individual equal child abuse?

Teresa · December 30, 2010 at 11:39 pm

Wow. I hesitate to say that I have done all of the above! Homeschool, Bible reading, gun owning, remodeling, prepping, etc etc etc. Oh! and camping. At what point should we move to Costa Rica?! I believe in the “frog in the boiling pot” analogy, and the “grass is always greener idea,” but I wonder at what point we can do something besides carry on and hope we don’t get ratted out. Revolution seems harder nowadays than it was in the 1770’s when everyone built (owned) their own homes and had communities supporting each other while the men fought.

    Kellene · December 31, 2010 at 12:55 am

There are two key strategies that I can think of that will indeed send a message without bullets, hate speeches, or anger. I’ll be writing about those in the future soon.
    Happy New Year, Teresa!

Donna · December 31, 2010 at 12:48 am

We may not be able to change the world, our neighbors, or those who thrill at being in charge of others, but I think we should continue to stand up for what is right, even though in the end, we may suffer. When my Savior comes again, I want to make sure I am on His side. For when all is said and done, I will win and big brother on the hill and sister Napolitano or sister Janet, will lose. I will prepare now and be as self-reliant as I can. Thanks Kellene for keeping us informed.

Sue · December 31, 2010 at 1:21 am

Welcome to the New World Order. This is just the beginning. There will be no toleration of anyone who is independent in the NWO. Fear is their weapon. I hate to say this, but it’s going to get worse.

    Kellene · December 31, 2010 at 2:06 am

Fear is voluntary, folks. And while there may be merit to the designs of those who would harm others, it is in circumstances like this that I retreat back to the most basic principle of preparedness–Spiritual Preparedness. Remember, we will not be left to just whittle away. We still have choices which will determine the outcome of good vs. evil. And we still have access to a true Commander in Chief that is far more powerful than all other enemies combined.

NJG · December 31, 2010 at 2:15 am

Just heard on the radio this afternoon that the city and police dept. are coupling with the State Attorney Generals office in a sort of “neighborhood watch”. Hopefully if the citizens join in and report suspicious looking things we can reduce crime. Yeah Yeah!!! Who do they think they are kidding. It all has to start somewhere.

Brooke Millett · December 31, 2010 at 2:34 am

Kellene,

Did you ever find out any more inormation on the couple about buying their staples and being stopped saying they had exceeded their staple limit? Just curious as of if this is true, where it happened, what the whole truth was?

    Kellene · December 31, 2010 at 4:00 am

I got in touch with the author and he confirmed the story, however when I called the chain of stores in that area at which this incident took place, I was unable to confirm it. So I’m leaving that one and chalking it up to a “what if” scenario to learn from instead of a historical lesson.

      Nick · December 31, 2010 at 4:42 am

Kellene, do you have a link for the staples story you’re talking about?

This sounds like another reason to always pay cash and not use your real contact information on stores’ shoppers cards!

        Kellene · December 31, 2010 at 6:26 pm

Nick, it’s on the Facebook Group site… Just keep in mind, I don’t support its veracity. I didn’t find anything on it on any other site and I’m sure that if it was accurate that it would have made it’s way out on the internet multiple times.

Dee · December 31, 2010 at 3:20 am

After seeing this post: http://preparetosurviveincalifornia.blogspot.com/ about the mobile guard towers I saw part of a documentary about iCS, the manufacturer. He said many states [and cities] are using funds provided by Homeland Security to purchase these in case of civil unrest. They are basically bulletproof observation towers that can be deployed easily and rapidly. Weapons options are available as well as IR cameras and some other strange camera that seemed to see through a wall. The one they demonstrated was in a Walmart shopping center in Atlanta.
Big Brother indeed.

Nick · January 1, 2011 at 8:00 am

Dee, the key is to stock up now so that when unrest comes to stay, we won’t have to go to Walmart!

Kathleen · January 3, 2011 at 3:49 am

So I am coming out to you all, I’m a liberal Democrat, Not a Right Wing Christian in the same sense as most of you. But this scares the %^#$@ out of me too. I was listening to a discussion about this on GASP … NPR. And the speaker was talking about how USELESS this is to real discovery of Terrorist Activity, it’s a lot of CThe hatter that actually slows down Intelligence surveliance of what is happening, most Real Information is collected by professionals doing what they do, listening to phone calls from suspect countries, from reliable sources not from the neighbor next door. We recently had what could have been a terrible incident at a community tree lighting program in Portland, OR. If this person had been successful a lot of families with very small children would have been in a very confined area and been terribly hurt. This person was turned in by his father a US military person on his way back to battle. Don’t always believe what you hear, Right or Left we all want a Safe country. And to be able to do the normal activities we do like go to tree lighting ceremonies or July 4th fireworks.
Be Aware, any one can be manipulated. Right or Left, German or Jew. Very Good article. Thanks.

    Kellene · January 3, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Kathleen, first of all WELCOME. I hope you know that. In fact, I know I’m not perfect at it, but I really do try to make this a non-denominational, non-political site–but sometimes my own personality screams out. 🙁
I hope that all of the information I provide is useful to everyone who wants to focus on self-reliance and I also hope it persuades everyone, regardless of their religious or political affiliations.
You are so right about the “chatter” aspect. I think even just as importantly, this is a lot of “chatter” that’s aimed at distracting us as well. It’s been practiced by governments for decades regardless of the affiliation of the administration.
Again, this is why I keep teaching that the spiritual preparedness comes first. We have to firmly develop our core belief system and then stay committed to it and trust our “gut” when learning of things like this.

Bill Tolbert · January 3, 2011 at 8:21 pm

Sorry folks, I think you are getting it wrong here. Yes, there are intrusions into private family affairs that border on abuse of power and need to be guarded against. But the DHS “say something” program comes out of the lessons learned in the US and overseas on how to best thwart/prevent terrorist activities. Two weeks ago, I heard the top Israeli emergency responders discuss what they have learned for their terrorist history when during a two year period in a country smaller than Delaware, they experienced 310 suicide bombers. They learned that the ability to be a “resilient community” has everything to do with the populace being actively engaged, enguard and situationally aware. The same came from other Nations representative. You need to be aware of your surroundings so that you don’t become a casualty. You need to “say something” when you see something that is wrong (possible terrorist activity) so that others who are experienced professionals can properly evaluate the threats. The DHS “say something” program is about helping to keep yourselves and your neighbors safe. It is not about trying to turn neighbor against neighbor. And no, I don’t work for DHS or FEMA, I am a volunteer disaster responder and medic who doesn’t want to add any more disaster images to my memory banks.

    Kellene · January 3, 2011 at 8:49 pm

To each his own, indeed, Bill.
Since the example of the Germans turning upon Germans (even bearing false witness in exchange for a hollow promise that their own families will be preserved) didn’t show you the fundamental flaw in this scenario, allow me to shed some light on another reason why this rhetoric is alarming.

In July of 2010, a man who had just recently returned from serving overseas in the military was in a Costco in NV. He was carrying his firearm, as was his right to do. He was a concealed carry permit holder. He was not brandishing his firearm. He had it under his shirt. He was certainly not trying to scare anyone, however, when he was looking at a product at Costco, his firearm was seen by a customer at Costco, who then saw fit to alert store management. One thing led to another due to overzealous people and to make a long story short, the man was killed by the police right in front of all of the other Costco customers. the man did nothing wrong except perhaps not have his firearm sufficiently hidden from view of someone who clearly is afraid of guns. To be truthful, I personally hope that the person who started all of this and caused this man’s death, suffer some sleepless nights until they figure out that everyday, law abiding citizens who desire to stand up to unconstitutional acts at the hands of local or federal officials is NOT something suspicious. See more about the incident here: http://www.examiner.com/conservative-in-las-vegas/coroner-s-inquest-into-army-veteran-s-death-to-be-televised?render=print

Why did this customer cost this man his life? Because this person had fear and suspicion beaten into her to the point that they associated all firearms with terrorists–even though we’ve never had a terrorist act in our country that involved firearms. And as such a man is dead today because of all of the harmful rhetoric that has been meticulously planned for convincing dispersion.

This kind of behavior has nothing to do with being actively engaged. This is a blatant intent at creating fear in the hearts of Americans. Being actively engaged is being educated sufficiently to be able to see truth and lies for what they are and then having the fortitude to stand up for what is right. I assure you folks, Heaven will not be full of fence sitters. There’s a reason why we have the ability to make choices. And a choice not made proactively in defense of self-reliance, freedoms, etc. is a choice made for the alternative whether you like it or not.

      Zachary T. DeVoe · January 12, 2011 at 10:38 pm

The man killed at Costco MUST have merited an action against himself. Had he been law abiding and honest, without fear of being exposed, he would have pleasantly handed his weapon over and presented his permit and all would have been finished and the paranoid observer would have been put at ease. The costomer did not cause this man his life to be lost. How dare you preach the following in an earlier article you wrote-

“I find it stirring to read the words in v. 13-15 which states “we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness wherein we know them; and they are truly manifest from heaven. These should then be attended to with great earnestness. Let no man count them as small things; for there is much which lieth in futurity, pertaining to the saints, which depends upon these things.” (Bold and italics added)
Think about all of the things which we have failed to fight against that has come to pass to our detriment? There are many more proposals before lawmakers today that threaten to extinguish our ability to believe and to worship the Lord as commanded. I shall not attempt to name or label them here, as I am sure our consciences will reveal that there are plenty. And yet how often to we esteem these things as superfluous matters in our life that are unworthy of our time and attention. Yet we covenant to give our all in building up a kingdom which is the very opposite of the environment of the devil.

For those of you who feel like you’re all alone in fighting the battle of shedding light on the darkest works of the adversary which have infiltrated every aspect of our society—food, safety, education, shelter, travel, employment, currency, civic leadership, medical care, in spite of the honorable attempts at many who lived before us to prevent such darkness from permeating our world, know that you are not alone and that in the words of the Lord, you are performing an “imperative duty.” “Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” (2 Kings 6:16) Not only that but they are more holy, more powerful and more armed with truth than those we may physically see at present. “Be not afriad of their faces fo I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.” (Jer. 1:8) I believe our duty is to make sure that we do not shrink from their presence and cause in an attempt to get along and get by.

Every blessing we have is in direct relation to every commandment we obey thus may we be strengthened in our obedience and efforts and truly be guided in wisdom and continue in “great earnestness.” -all your previous words.

Again, how dare you preach that we should “bring to light” the darkness and then blame the common conscientious Costco shopper for being the cause of death to a man that was resisting the authorities to the point of violent ends. as for the “if you see something, say something” campaign, are you for this or against it?

        Kellene · January 12, 2011 at 11:04 pm

Where is the “innocent until proven guilty” in your logic? Possessing a firearm is NOT an illegal act. In fact, acting “suspiciously” is also NOT an illegal act. Having one’s concealed firearm in view temporarily is also NOT a criminal act, it’s a misdemeanor. We don’t believe in punishing people based on what we think they might do just because we watched the latest horror story on the news or saw it in the most recent Hollywood release.

I believe if you will read even the mainstream media articles on this matter you will see that the “conscientious customer” is was exactly that triggered this whole series of events. The firearm owner did nothing wrong other than exercise his 2nd Amendment right–even in accordance to eyewitness accounts. (You can access the police records easily online, by the way.) If you believe that these officers acted appropriately, then why have they been temporarily suspended and order to be reeducated? Why has a judge ruled that the civil suit– which is being brought against these persons as well as the Costco managers involved–has merit and can proceed?

Also, you should know that there are several Supreme Court law cases (at least 4 that I can think of off hand) in which a person IS acting in a lawful manner to resist any authority when their life is in danger as the result of a mistake or outright evil intentions on the part of the law enforcement officer.

I think it’s quite naive (and perhaps even dangerous) of a person to believe that all law enforcement persons act rationally, legally, and lawfully. Unfortunately, the danger of this scenario was escalated primarily because someone felt uncomfortable with seeing a firearm on another person–even though it was legally and lawfully there. Yes, it is a CONCEALED firearm permit which he holds. Thus all such persons should take great care to keep it concealed until a time it is needed, however, the veteran wasn’t brandishing the firearm. He wasn’t threatening anyone with it. It was no more a threat to the the safety of the observer than is the Highway patrolman parked at the side of the road looking for those who exceed the posted speed limit. If you don’t go faster than the speed limit, then there’s nothing to worry about.

If you are saying that as a result of the scripture passage I posted on one of my other blogs conflicts with this scenario, I will have to disagree with you. Freaking out because you see someone with a firearm is NOT “shedding light on the darkest works.” A man possessing a firearm is not suspicious anymore than if someone were to catch a glimpse of my firearm as I open my purse to pay at the cash register or shift my clothing in a particular fashion so as to reveal that which is concealed. A lawful concealed firearm holder is not an abomination. One’s ability to bring darkness to light is to actually be able to RECOGNIZE that which is not light. That definition will most likely NOT come from anything that Napolitano, TSA, or DHS can teach me.

A common conscientious shopper you say? I think this is just one more person who is calling good, evil, and evil, good. I have a problem with someone taking issue with another person all because they are exercising their 2nd Amendment rights. It shouldn’t be common for people to fear that. But unfortunately we have been subjected to ACTUAL works of darkness by “the powers that be” that have spun such horror stories and scenarios so as to cause many to fear a person who’s crazy enough to carry a firearm.

I can state clearly that I don’t have to be told by “homeland security” to report suspicious behaviors. I already do that as is appropriate. Unfortunately, DHS’s plan is to mislead other people though as to what suspicious behavior really is. And thus I am truly NOT in support of this campaign.

RDzierzon · January 4, 2011 at 5:51 pm

I have dealt with CPC before and they have scary out of control power. They literally have two forms of oversite 1. the juvenile court judge who actually defers to them for information about the cases they bring before them and 2. the state legislature where they reside, which is very often uninformed, misinformed, unbearably slow to respond with solutions to apparent problems with the system.

If you think they can’t or wont take your kids you are only kidding your self. They are EXACTLY like the NAZI’s in the fact that they gather all their information from your neighbors, family, friends, and scariest of all from YOU. They can twist the things you tell them into something it isn’t.

If you see something, yes be wary and cautious DON’T call human services they are a monster out of control…

RDzierzon · January 4, 2011 at 5:54 pm

Bill you go ahead and keep telling yourself that they have your best interests at heart. Maybe some of them do but do you know how they get their funding? Research it and realize they receive the majority of their funding from the federal government based on how many children they take into foster care. They DON’T receive the same funding or even close to it for in home services. You do the math…

Glenda · January 4, 2011 at 7:20 pm

Kellenes’ right folks about Spiritual Preparedness. That said, I’m appalled about the shooting in Las Vegas of a LEGAL CCWP holder. “Someone saw something, and said someting” that ultimately ended this veterans life while he was picking up some items at COSTCO. I’m not saying you shouldn’t speak up if you feel unsafe, but my gosh! This man DIED because of knee-jerk hysterical reactionS, on the part of a COSTCO employee placing the 911 call, the LVPD, etc. I have to speak to the issue of EDUCATION…firearm safety, store protocols and being responsible for your own safety. There’s always a right way and a wrong way to do things. Unfortunately many times the “wrong way” is the path taken; albeit out of fear. With regard to “Shopping With the Enemy”, I’ve found myself of late, being extra vigilant about public comments re prepping, supplies, firearms/ammo and on and on. I believe that it’s really the beginning of much worse to come. CPS won’t come knocking on my door, kids are all grown, but now I worry about my grandson! I wonder who else we need to be wary of…..EVERYONE OUTSIDE YOUR FAMILY maybe? Sounds like a good plan to me.

Jamie · January 5, 2011 at 4:59 am

One tip put you on the list for no fly. Bloomberg doesn’t want no fly listers to get guns. It’s all for your own good citizen. Please move along and pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Dennis · January 5, 2011 at 5:35 pm

On one of my shopping trips at Walmart I noted the peculiar expression on the clerks face as my order was ringing up. Felt then that I should start making more but smaller purchases to avoid appearing as an extremist for stocking up on groceries. What a predicament!

Will change to cash only sales as well. Don’t want to scare the sleeping class by “obviously” stocking up. ~~~stocking up for what they might imagine~~~ And who knows where their imagination might lead.

    Nick · January 6, 2011 at 1:59 am

Just curious, Dennis, what and how much were you buying? I try to rotate my shopping between two different Walmarts in town, and occasionally a few others within 25 miles, and I typically don’t spend more than $100 at a time (paying cash only).

jamie · January 7, 2011 at 3:11 am

I’ve never really cared for Wally-World. I think I’m a throwback I like smaller and local stores even as a kid.
I do a lot of my shopping at a local restaurant supplier. So Bulk purchases are the norm, I would assume Costco or Sam’s Club would be the same. I think having a plausible explanation is always good to have ready. i.e. I hate to shop so I only do it once a month, I buy for a parent or child because they can’t shop (Disability)or saving gas trying to shop only once a month. Big chili cook off/BBQ/Potluck or party coming up….
Situational awareness, give them something to chew on that is plausible should go a long ways to dispel any “suspicions”. You seem honest, open and talkative not like you are hiding something. Since I am using my food storage daily I’m telling the truth. It will be used for all of the above reasons. Just maybe not this year. 😉

Nick · January 12, 2011 at 2:35 am

I just got to thinking, if anyone ever makes a comment like “Isn’t it illegal for you to buy that much food?” ask them why it’d be illegal to buy $500 worth of food but not illegal to buy $20,000 worth of a car? For that matter, if it’s not “fair” for me to buy so much food, why isn’t everyone else in here buying the same food right now? They have the same chance to buy food as I do, but obviously they’re choosing to do other things. Sounds fair to me. 🙂
