9/11 – Photo c/o freerepublic.com

Lately my husband and I have been discussing what we think our known enemies intend to do next. Why do we presume that there’s more? Well, if you’ve looked into the deep-seeded hatred and hollow shell of morality of those who orchestrated the original 9/11 attack, you know that their satisfaction is unresolved. Their appetite for destruction is insatiable. To put it simply, there wasn’t  enough mayhem and destruction felt from the original attack. We Americans have the audacity to move on with our lives. We’re not crippled yet. We’re still free. We still live in a Republic. Thus, the goal of the enemy has not yet been met.

It’s these types of realities that cause my husband and I to be aware. To be ready. And to continue to look for other ways in which we need to be ready. I’m frequently asked by folks to let them into my head a bit so that they can discover how I came upon the idea to store this, or to learn that, or decided to research that. I admit. Some of what I’ve come up with over the years never would have entered my mind 15 years ago. But the world is definitely a different place now than it was then. Hatred seems to have more fire and committment than it did when I was in high school. Technology now seems to make that hatred easily acted upon. And our latest generation of legal adults seems to be more obsessed with “what can you do for me?” and a sense of entitlement rather than trying to be their best for their family and their nation. All of this combined makes us ripe for another 9/11 level attack. Only this time, they will learn how to defend against a courageous few. They will know how to circumvent the facade of additional security we’ve put in place. And more importantly, they will have a better idea as to what their point of attack really should be–the heart and soul of Americans. Creating fear instead of destroying things is a better play for them.

So, how can you be ready for what’s coming next? Just keep doing what you’re doing. Mentally prepare for the inevitable next disaster. Physically prepare for it like it’s coming next week. Preparedness destroys fear and suffering. Comfort destroys chaos. A state of  awareness defeats any feelings of victimization.

In closing I wanted to share with you an article that I read in my local newspaper yesterday. It’s essentially a bit of a warning from one who may very well know when the next “9/11 attack” may come. Read it not to tremble, but to gather more information for your aware state of mind.

Is another 9/11 set to unfold?

By Lee Benson

Deseret News Published: Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 9:32 p.m. MDT

Earlier this year, quite by happenstance, I read a book written by Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter James B. Stewart.

Heart of a Soldier by James B. Stewart

Heart of a Soldier by James B. Stewart

“Heart of a Soldier” tells the story of two men who, well before it happened, foretold not only of the terrorist attack of 9/11 but also the 1993 bombing in the World Trade Center parking garage that preceded it.

One of the men, Rick Rescorla, was chief of security for Morgan Stanley with an office in the World Trade Center. He died on 9/11, but not before he shepherded all but six of Morgan Stanley’s 2,700 employees to safety because of a well-prepared and well-executed evacuation plan. He’d have made it out, too, had he not gone back in the building looking for those six.

The other man, Daniel J. Hill, is still alive.

With another Sept. 11 approaching I wanted to talk to The Man Who Predicted 9/11.

Although the primary focus in Stewart’s book is on Rescorla — a bona fide hero for his actions on 9/11 — I found Hill to be an even more fascinating character.

It was Hill who converted to Islam as a young U.S. Army paratrooper stationed in Beirut in 1958. It was Hill who learned fluent Arabic. It was Hill who joined the Mujahedeen Freedom Fighters in Afghanistan and fought the Soviet invasion there in the 1980s. It was Hill who personally met Osama bin Laden. It was Hill who used information from Islamic extremists to warn Rescorla that terrorists would use the underground parking garage for a car bomb attack on the World Trade Center. It was Hill who asked the U.S. government to assist him in an assassination attempt on bin Laden in 1998 (the request was rejected). And it was Hill who warned the FBI just weeks before Sept. 11, 2001, that his Mideast contacts told him “something big” was about to happen in the United States, in New York, Washington, D.C., or Philadelphia — maybe all three.

Through the Internet I managed to contact Hill at his home in Florida. He’s 71 now. I asked him if his reputation as a terrorism prognosticator without parallel has changed his life much.

“Oh, that blew over pretty fast,” he said. “Most of the people even in my hometown don’t know any of that stuff.”

He didn’t want to talk about the past. He wanted to talk about the future.

The very near future.

The man who predicted 9/11 is worried that its sequel is imminent.

“Muslims that I talk to say things like, ‘America thinks they’re safe now. They’ve forgotten about 9/11. But watch, Daniel. Stay near your TV. It’s going to be bigger than 9/11,’ ” he said.

Hill said the next terrorist attack will involve suitcase nuclear bombs that will be detonated in small, low-flying two-seater private airplanes manned by men hanging onto the belief that, like the 9/11 hijackers, they are about to die as martyrs and enter paradise.

He is not alone in suggesting such a scenario. A 2007 book, “The Day of Islam,” spells out the details, as do any number of Internet sites about a plot called “American Hiroshima.”

The nukes, he said, will be detonated over New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Miami, Houston, Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

I asked Hill, “Why now?”

“Eight years from 1993 to 2001, eight years from that 9/11 to this 9/11,” he said. “Symbolism. They’re big on symbolism.”

“Ramadan started two weeks ago Saturday,” he said, referring to the Muslim holy month of fasting. “It always hits around Ramadan.”

Eight years ago, Hill predicted the attack would come on Oct. 16 — almost in the middle of that year’s Ramadan (the timing of Ramadan varies from year to year). He was about a month off.

“I don’t know the second, hour or day. I just know they have the means, will, motivation and desire to do it,” he said, noting that it’s believed that years ago the suitcase nukes, acquired from former USSR operatives, were smuggled into America across the Mexican border.

Hill said he has warned the FBI, the CIA and others in government. For the past two years, he’s sent out proposals for a book on the subject. All he’s gotten back are rejections.

“To most people, I am a deviant personality,” he said.

But there’s no arguing his credentials.

“I’m a Muslim,” he says. “I’m a special ops expert, I’m a terrorist and I’ve lived among Muslims. I fought the Russians with the same guys we’re now fighting in Afghanistan. I met Osama. I volunteered to assassinate him. I know (the enemy) so well because I’ve worked, slept and prayed alongside them for years. I’ve become one of them. I know their nature, I know their culture, I know how they think. I can quote the Koran like a Southern Baptist minister can quote the New Testament. I know these are people who do not tire, who do not quit. There are odds this won’t happen, but they aren’t big odds.”

“I hope you’re wrong,” I told him.

“Yeah. I hope so, too,” he said.

Oh happy happy joy joy..

I think you left out a big goal and reason for 9/11. We have not left the middle east.

One of the things I think about everyday while driving to work is just how volnerable we are. We have no security at all. Look at our power lines, gas lines, heck there is a giant fuel depot right down the road from us with nothing but a chain link fence for protection.

It would be so easy for a group, even a small group, to bring down the electric grid in towns. I’d imagine a dozen men with chainsaws could put entire counties in the dark over night.

My point was that we are absolutely not safe.

So any idea how much fallout to expect from a suitcase nuke?

Kellene · September 8, 2009 at 5:12 pm

I was going to include that info, but it entirely depends on how high up the plane is.
Also, a dozen men with chain saws wouldn’t do so well in a well-armed society. Now and army, that’s another matter.
But yes, we are much more vulnerable than we realize.

Terrorism in any form is unacceptable to me. The damage and loss of life that results from acts of terror is abhorrent and should be punished to the fullest extent allowed by international law.

The terrorism that the USA has seen, fears and will undoubtedly face again has been a long time in coming. The reputation of the USA that fosters some of this “hatred” is a direct result of US foreign policy. Invading Panama didn’t help, invading Iraq (twice) didn’t help, total blind support of all things Israel doesn’t help, political interference in the affairs of sovereign countries to bolster US interests doesn’t help, stationing permanent troop encampments all over the world doesn’t help. The list of perceived injustices is long and spans more than 100 years.

Through its actions, policies and statements, the US is perceived by many on the world stage as an “arrogant school yard bully”. There is no mystery here as to why the US is a target for terrorism. There is still no excuse for that terrorism as a response to the perceived injustices perpetrated by the US, but being a target in the past and in the future should come as no surprise to any well informed American. Not everyone wants to eat a BigMac and swig Coca-cola. Some resent having US values imposed on them at gun point, through economic punishment or via direct political interference courtesy of the CIA.

In a nutshell, when you topple governments, impose an external will by way of the IMF and trade policies and station troops all over the world to impose the “our way or the highway” philosophy, of course people will strike back. Until the US begins to carry a smaller stick and allows the citizens of countries to overthrow their own repressive governments, until the US begins to see that their way is not necessarily the only way or the best way, I’m afraid the citizens of the US are in for more turbulent times in the future. As citizens, you are responsible for controlling your own government – until you do, you can’t blame the oppressed for striking back – that is after all a key American truism – “Don’t tread on me”.

It’s no secret that Americans are not well received as visitors/tourists in many countries. This should have been a loud wakeup call that something seriously wrong was happening. No effort was made to understand and mitigate this hostility over the past 40 or 50 years so the end result is violence. The solution to the terror problem is not more force and applied violence by the USA but to allow the rest of the world the freedom to solve their own problems, in their own way, with the USA concentrating more on its own domestic issues and citizens and less on swaggering up and down the international dateline crying, “You want some of this?…Bring it on!”

The remainder of your article still holds though, better prepare, ‘cuz I don’t see the US Government changing their tact or tone anytime soon…

I am censoring myself…

Hi Kellene,
I was thinking of the article in the Desert News when I started reading your post. I’m glad you included it. It is amazing to me how unaware most people are of threats like this. I recently told a “friend” that I had just finished getting a years supply of food for my family. She said “Oh thats so cool. I’m just not that into it. But I know I should be.” She has three little kids. I was dumbfounded. I thought I’m not “into it”, I don’t want my kids going hungry!
I am really into preparednesspro though! I love it. Thank you for all of the time you put into it. I’m hoping to be at your upcoming coupon class.

The reasoning that says “We’re going to get attacked because we have not left the Middle East” is a bit flawed. As far as they’re concerned, we’ve been in the middle east for decades. Pulling out all of our troops will not make them go “Oh, ok, let’s leave them alone.” In their minds, they have a score to settle with much of the western world, which may well never be settled. As long as we have so much as embassies (or even peace workers) over there, someone is going to find something to kill people over it.

Is this Hill guy predicting the next big thing is set to unfold in the coming months? I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Two out of two at least shows he knows what he’s talking about. The best we can do is to prepare for cleanup, since I don’t see how you could possibly stop such an attack. All it would take is a single city, not even the 5 or so mentioned (which would simply magnify the terror and cripple our economy).

Scary prospect, but there doesn’t seem like much we can actually do if it these people really are determined to cause us harm in such a way.

saddam hussein threatenend to start trading his oil in euros instead of dollars. USA can’t afford to have the world ditch the dollar as the ‘real’ economy can’t sustain their extravagance. So the nipped that one in the bud before the others in the middleeast caught on.

Kellene · October 8, 2009 at 2:51 pm

I wouldn’t sleep too well on that one yet. The Arabs are threatening to no longer accept the dollar. And as you well know the Chinese aren’t thrilled with the Dollar right now either.

11/11 · October 21, 2009 at 11:16 am

It’s definitely not a matter of “if” but “when”–even looking at the media today, it’s hinted at on a subtle level in the movies, tv, games, scifi novels, etc. just like 9/11 seemed to be before the event (see http://www.imagining911.blogspot.com) Sad so many refuse to put the pieces of the puzzle together, maybe it’s all too disturbing and they just can’t handle the truth?!
