Yesterday I began a series in which I shared with our readers the CRITICAL  information needed to know about essential oils in order to make an educated decision as to whether or not they should be a part of your self-reliance efforts, how to properly select them, and how to use them effectively.  Unfortunately, the way the deck is stacked against Americans today, making these decisions is a lot harder than you might realize. Knowing this, I’ve been cringing a LOT lately as I’ve watched...

Should essential oils be a part of your health and wellness care supplies? Is there a big difference between a bottle of essential oils that costs $90 and a bottle that costs $12? Is there a way to determine whether or not I’m really getting a quality product? Are they safe to use without side effects? Is there a big difference between essential oils and dried herbs of the same name?     Preparedness Pro's Essential Oil Collection All Rights Reserved Copyright 2012 Preparedness Pro     The...

The other day a friend of mine gave me a tip that you can obtain an entire case of bananas from most Wal-Marts in the nation simply by contacting the Produce Manager and asking them to take their old bananas off of their hands. The standard cost is only $5! There are instances in which some of the Wal-Marts have elected to donate their used produce to Food Banks or other community help centers, but it’s certainly doable a lot of the time in many areas of the U.S. Regardless of how you feel...

We've received hundreds of comments and e-mails this evening as a result of a technical error that occurred while our webmaster was working to make improvements to our site, Preparedness Pro. Unfortunately, this error meant that all of you who are subscribed readers to our site received a confusing e-mail about post entitled "Protected Content" and had a bunch of mumbo jumbo such as "Members Only" etc. We apologize for the confusion that our work today has caused. We ARE in the process of...

When I make cornbread, I always make extra and then I’ll make cornbread croutons for this particular salad. It’s a nice twist on the same old boring side dishes and it’s got a little bit of a spicy, sassy kick to the flavor as well. The recipe is even better when I’m able to quickly make it from my freeze-dried produce. I also like how it uses herbs and spices that I can have on hand in my indoor herb garden or freeze-dried. This recipe does taste better with fresh ingredients, but I've used...

Mineral Oiled Eggs2012 All Rights Reserved Preparedness Pro I thought I'd just share a few pictures with you so that you can see what the "old" eggs look like. I purchased these eggs the first week of February when they were on sale. I oiled them with warm mineral oil and put them in the carton and put my own date on the egg carton too. As you can see in this picture, I dated them February 9th and the expiration date on them was a little later in the month. I had some sausage that I needed...

If you’re experiencing a problem with mice now, just wait until there’s a time that regular sanitation services aren’t available. The mild winter, flooding, and record heat have created a perfect storm for the mouse population. If you see signs of one in your home, there’s at least 34 others…for about 3 weeks anyway, in which time another litter of 4 to 6 are bred and the female then immediately  begins gestation again. Though the average lifespan of a mouse is 18 months, in that time they can...

This is my variation on a rice dish--something to jazz things up a bit with a side dish. It was inspired by the food I ate out in New England. Moosewood Restaurant is in Ithaca, NY but the whole food feel in all of their dishes is what I truly crave. So give t his a try. It's GREAT to stuff vegetables with such as green peppers, artichokes, eggplant, squash, zuchinni, and even grape leaves if you want to keep it all Greek. Enjoy!   Greek Pilaf--inspired by Moosewood Restaurant 1 C. minced...

Let’s take a look at what’s really going on with this growing season, the drought, and the extremely high temperatures. I posted a comment on Facebook the other day about drought conditions and some smart-aleck said “So? We lived through them before, we’ll live through them again.”  I do not want anyone to panic,--this is a panic-free zone, remember, but for this lady to make such a flippant comment concerns me for a couple of reasons…where there’s one there are many who also have this laissez...

Going Underground with Your Garden? Now she's really gone crazy!   Perhaps you've never conceived of an underground garden. I realize that it  may sound a little crazy, but I actually believe that it’s the future of food production for individuals who want to take control over their food supply while avoiding all of the problems which threaten a quality food source grown the good old fashioned way.   For starters, let me just share with you the nuts and bolts of how an underground garden works...
