Linked Article: 10 Reasons Why The Economy is Not Getting Better

I just had to post this one on behalf of our periodic antagonists who insist that "all is well" and that no one needs to be more self-reliant. *sigh* However I would take stern exception to one important aspect of this article.  The best of times are NOT behind us.  And it is for that reason that I continue to prepare and strive for better self-reliance. I hope you feel that way too!

Nothing is made here anymore compared to when I was a kid.

I am not able to read the rest of this article?

The numbers are crazy now. Approx. 1/3 all USA "paychecks" come via SS, SSD, SSI or unemployment. Then you add in the 20 million federal, state and local government workers and we have about 61 million workers supporting a country with 330 million citizens. This isn't about right or left politics It's about 20% of the population supporting th other 80%. It can't be done for long. Heck that doesn't include welfare, food stamps or energy subsidies.

Jamie, you're spot on. I heard those stats today, and I don't know what to do next. It sure hurts to be supporting what I'm totally against.

Thanks Kellene

wow!

Kellene, I think it depends on where our sustenance is coming from. If we're looking to the U.S. government to make things better, ain't gonna happen! But my family is trusting in the Lord and continuing to prep and live frugally. THAT is where and why things will get better, not because of Uncle Sam!

please, where is the article, "10 Reasons Why The Economy is Not Getting Better"? I can't bring it up anywhere

i cant read the rest of this artical

Folks, it's that gi-nor-mous link right there. I just went to the webpage to double check that the link still works. It did for me. And since I'm a techno-idiot, that's the extent of my trouble-shooting capabilities. :-(

I like your 10 reasons:
Let me see if I can add a few.
1. All modern counteries, with minor exception are strangled by Central banks printing fiat currency - that will lead to inflation hurting low income people purchasing basic necessities.
2. We are almost one generation removed from there being a majority of the people who knew how to take care of themselves with their own food production.
3. The vast majority of the people have zero savings.
4. The vast majority of the people don't understand the fundamentals of the financial industry, and thus will be or are unable to figure out what's going on.
5. It takes time to "Prepare" for bad times. You can't plant a fruit tree today and expect to get a crop off it next season. You can't learn about gardening in one season.
6. There is something about the current 20 - 30 somethings that is more focused on getting by without excellence. I don't know what it is, but I would not depend on the 20 - 30 generation to pull my bacon out of the fire.
7. Most people will have taken no action re: alternative hedges like precious metals or foreign currency early enough to help them weather the storm.
8. Federal deficits are one thing, but there are so many states and local governments that are doomed right now. You will see massive reductions in the state and local work force.
9. All "austerity" efforts will result in lower tax revenues...and will be met with extreme resistance like you see in Wisconsin. Ultimately this will lead to violent conflict as competing groups reach a breaking point.
10. The biggest problem is that events can unfold quickly and dramatically, leaving people as "unprepared" victims.

Don't be.
