Well, I’m back from playing around and taking some time off, so your update is coming on a Wednesday. :-) Hey, better late than never I suppose. Wow. Can you believe it's June already? The weather sure isn't manifesting that. We've got record levels of rain, snow, and even low temperatures here in the West. Record dry weather back east. And record number of tornadoes and devastation as a result of said tornadoes.  Think Someone is trying to tell us something? Wow. What a way to start off the...

Like many, I tend to be an emotional eater. And dog-gone-it, if I want a fried egg, I want a fried egg. And no amount of seasoning of French name-calling will sufficiently entice me to mentally switch from the envisioned savor of a fried egg to settle for an omelet made from powdered eggs. Yes, this certainly is a problem if I find myself completely out of real, honest to goodness eggs!  Powdered eggs and other egg substitutes are great for baking and such, but there’s just nothing else that...

Would you like a few easy ideas that you can do with your wheat that will actually garner the joyful attention of your children, a sprinkle of admiration from your neighbors at that next potluck, and your own peace of mind knowing you’re serving something delicious and nutritious? Yeah, I thought so. So how about we talk about wheat berries today? For starters, let’s remember that if you aren’t regularly consuming wheat now, then when you may have to move to eating it exclusively everyday you...

So to start off let me ask you a question. Do you have your rice? I don’t know about you, but rice is one of my “must have” staples in my home. It is a part of the 350 pounds of grains I have per person for a year’s supply.  I especially love the heartiness which my brown rice affords me. But there are some rough roads ahead in this regard due to the flooding which is going on in our heartland area. I suspect that many of you assume that our rice was imported from Asian countries. But...

So I have an entire back yard FULL of dandelions. Since I’ve planted my first ever garden back there, I’m not too thrilled with the thought of having to weed dandelions forever. Additionally, I’ll admit, I’m downright embarrassed about the appearance of the backyard and also worried that it means dandelion hell for my neighbors. Seriously, how does one make themselves a target of the Dandelion Invaders? Why doesn’t my yard look like my neighbors? Oh yeah, I forgot. My mom used to tell me “if...

“Food. It’s what’s for dinner.” “Home is Where My Food Storage is.” “Hunger is the best sauce.” Yup, it’s time for us to address the Principle of Preparedness that so many think of first and foremost—food. Keep in mind, though that it is indeed the 8th Principle of Preparedness in order of prioritization. All of the other Principles I’ve addressed leading up to this one will indeed demand positions of greater prominence before you get to this one. As I always say, I strongly doubt that a...

Before I get to the recipe, I wanted to address one other quick matter. There were several of you who wanted to know more about the discussion I engaged in with my friend the other day. Well, this Saturday is your chance. Be sure to tune in to The Preparedness Pro Radio Show as we discuss “Corpus Delicti”.  The three words “injury, loss or harm” have never meant more to your freedom and independence. This isn’t a loophole we’re talking about, Folks. This is right there in black and white, so...

As I’ve been venturing out a bit more each year in the area of gardening, I find I am surrounded by well-meaning, encouraging friends. I’ve heard more unusual remedies for a great garden over the last several years than I ever thought possible. Who knew that so many people had such diverse opinions about gardening?  But when I began mulling over some of this well-meaning advice, I decided the best thing to do is what I always do...research. As a result, I discovered that when it comes to all...

I actually think it’s quite comical that I’m writing about this particular topic. But hey, every aspect of self-reliance should be addressed at least once on here, right? So what the heck.  Though the humor of this scenario comes from the fact that during the course of the  last two radio shows I’ve shared some "controversial" information (particularly on Wednesday’s show about The Medical Lies).  While I simply set a few misnomers straight on this morning’s show, I find it delightfully...

We’ve received a LOT of new readers lately and as such I’m hearing a lot of questions that are also covered in articles in the past. So today I thought I’d help someone find an article on the use and selection of powdered milk that I swore I had written at one time. But I gotta tell ya, I’m not all that impressed with the search features of Wordpress. I figure if I can’t even find the dern-blasted article, then how can I expect anyone else to. So, I’m going to provide some basic powdered milk...
